A massive thank you to Adela Louise and the Posivitively Marlow team for making this episode happen…!
John Kirtland, a member of the Marlow Rowing Club, discusses the history and community of the club which was established in 1871.
He explains that the club has 600 members ranging from ages 12-90.
The goal is to offer the sport and camaraderie to people of all ages and abilities.
They want members to progress as far as they can, including competing at the national level and qualifying for the GB squad.
However, most members are not elite athletes; they simply enjoy rowing recreationally.
Beyond fitness and competition, many members credit rowing for teaching concentration, trust, and friendship skills that benefit their lives.
John emphasises the welcoming, friendly atmosphere that enables complete novices to learn.
With multiple boats and regular adult “learn to row” courses, the Marlow Rowing Club aims to share the sport and community with the town.
